Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Biodegradation in water:
inherently biodegradable, not fulfilling specific criteria

Additional information

From assessment of similar sulphonated azo dyes, it is considered unlikely that the substance will be readily biodegradable. A number of studies using OECD screening methods have been assessed with a range between 0 – 38% biodegradation. It is likely that the sulphonated azo substances showing higher rates of biodegradation are most likely due to side groups that are more easily metabolised or cleave off the main structure.

Literature checks suggest that there is little concern about long-term persistence and there is evidence that a combination of biotic and abiotic processes will break down these substances in the environment; this is apparently likely in waste water treatment processes as well as natural soils and sediments.

As no claim is made that CJ305 is readily biodegradable, this grouping approach is considered to be valid.
