Description of key information

The lowest 48 h EC50 for daphnids was 19.8 mg/L however, a further 48 h EC50 of 50 mg/L was observed and several supporting studies substantiate this value. For this reason a geometric mean of the two Key studies is used to generate an EC50

Four study reports were available and input as endpoint summary records. However, one (Palla & Dion, 1983) was considered unassignable primarily because the final endpoint was based on an exposure duration of 24 hours. Of the three remaining studies, the lowest 48h-EC50 was 19.8 mg/L (Stahl & Wetzel, 1985). This study is considered as Klimisch 2 despite the lack of chemical analysis as the substance would be relatively stable in an aqueous solution within a period of 48 hours. The two remaining studies (Ziegenfuss & Adams, 1984, K2; MITI, 2002, K4) support this conclusion based on 48h-EC50 of 50 mg/L and 27 mg/L, respectively. pHs were adjusted to acceptable levels following OECD Guideline 202. The EC50 was therefore based on the geometric mean of the two valid studies.
