Because LAS is readily biodegradable, the hydrolysis test is not required under REACH; additionally, readily hydrolysable groups are absent from the chemical structure. Photodegradation in water is anticipated to be a minor degradation route relative to microbial degradation, though some photodegradation may occur in water when photoactivating materials are present. Significant amounts of LAS are unlikely to be present in the atmosphere for photodegradation due to LAS' low vapour pressure (3 x 10-13Pa for C12LAS).
