Additional information

In the key-study performed by Clariant (2007), the acute toxicity of Direct Red 23 (DR23) on Daphnia magna was investigated according to the OECD 202 guideline. The study was well conducted and the active material tested was adequate. At concentrations of 0, 1, 10, 100 mg/L no significant effects were determined. Since EC0 is >100 mg/L, therefore an EC50 of >100 mg/L was derived from this study.

The read across study conducted with Direct Red 239 (DR239) is coherent with the observed result for DR23 with an EC50 value >120 mg/L (BASF, 2012).
