Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

Move into fresh air and keep at rest. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Get medical attention if any discomfort continues.
Immediately remove contaminated clothing. Wash off immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. In case of rashes, wounds or other skin disorders: Seek medical attention and bring along these instructions.
Immediately flush eye(s) with plenty of water. Remove any contact lenses and open eyes wide apart. If eye irritation persists: Get medical advice/attention.
Rinse mouth thoroughly. Drink a few glasses of water or milk. Only induce vomiting at the instruction of medical personnel. Get medical attention if any discomfort continues.
May cause eczema-like skin disorders (dermatitis).
Treat symptomatically.

Fire-fighting measures

The product is combustible, and heating may generate vapours which may form explosive vapour/air mixtures.
Extinguish with foam, carbon dioxide, dry powder or water fog. Dry sand.
By heating and fire, toxic vapours/gases may be formed.
Self-contained breathing apparatus and full protective clothing should be worn when fighting chemical fires. Selection of respiratory protection for firefighting: follow the general fire precautions indicated in the workplace.
Move containers from fire area if you can do so without risk. Prevent runoff from fire control or dilution from entering streams, sewers or drinking water supply.

Accidental release measures

Evacuate area. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Wear suitable protective clothing.
For emergency responders Keep unnecessary personnel away.
Do not discharge into drains, water courses or onto the ground.
Absorb spillage with non-combustible, absorbent material.

Handling and storage

All handling to take place in well-ventilated area. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and clothing. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment. Wash hands after handling. Wash contaminated clothing before reuse. Observe good industrial hygiene practices.
Provide adequate ventilation. Store in a cool place in original container and protect from sunlight.
Store in closed original container at temperatures between 10°C and 20°C. Store away from incompatible materials.
Specific end use(s): Optical lens monomer.

Exposure controls / personal protection

No exposure limits noted for ingredient(s).
No biological exposure limits noted for the ingredient(s).
Follow standard monitoring procedures.
No DNELs or PNECs available.
Provide adequate ventilation and minimise the risk of inhalation of vapours and mists.

Personal protective equipment should be chosen according to the CEN standards and in discussion with the supplier of the personal protective equipment.
Wear tight-fitting goggles or face shield.
Wear protective gloves. Suitable gloves can be recommended by the glove supplier.
Wear appropriate chemical resistant clothing to prevent any possibility of skin contact.
Wear suitable respiratory protection. Use respiratory equipment with gas filter, type A2.
Wear appropriate thermal protective clothing, when necessary.
Always observe good personal hygiene measures, such as washing after handling the material and before eating, drinking, and/or smoking. Routinely wash work clothing and protective equipment to remove contaminants.

Contain spills and prevent releases and observe national regulations on emissions.

Stability and reactivity

Danger other than fire: The substance may oxidise to disulfide polymers.
Chemical reaction with water: The substance is gradually oxidised by the oxygen in water to form disulfide-type polymers. The reaction is not violent.
Dust explosion: Not applicable.
Avoid heat and sunlight.
Dust explosion determined by test: Not applicable.

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Discharge to the environment will be minimal. Recovery from minor spillages or accidental discharge is not economically or technically feasible, and such waste material will be disposed of by incineration or landfill. In principle, it may be possible to recover larger spillages of uncontaminated material for subsequent use.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: None known.

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Contaminated containers or spillages of solutions mixed with inert material (eg. sand, vermiculite, sawdust or paper ) may be disposed of by landfill at an authorised tip in accordance with local regulations.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: The substance can be disposed of by incineration by burning under controlled conditions at a licensed waste treatment processor in accordance with local regulations. Stack gases should be scrubbed, because noxious fumes (eg. carbon and
sulfur oxides and hydrogen sulfide ) could be formed.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: The substance should not normally be discharged directly to the sewage system or the aqueous environment. However, adverse effects on sewage treatment systems would be unlikely.

Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Not applicable, the substance will not enter the public domain.
