Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint summary

Description of key information
Acute toxicity of Si/FeSi silicate has not been tested. However acute toxicity test with silicates, kaolin, and synthetic amorphous silica show very high LD50 values. Therefore it can be concluded that Si/FeSi-silicate is not acutely toxic.

Additional information
Read-across to other silicates and amorphous silica is justified based on the composition and the low solubility and surface characteristics of Si/FeSi silicate.
No test data on acute toxicity caused by Si/FeSi silicate are available. However, the available information on acute toxicity caused by insoluble silicates, kaolin, and synthetic amorphous silica do not show any indications of being acutely toxic. Based on read-across from these substances, Si/FeSi silicate is not likely to have any acutely toxic effects.
Due to the poor solubility of Si/FeSi silicate systemic absorption via the oral route is not relevant, and acute toxicity via the dermal route is extremely unlikely. Secondary ingestion of inhaled particles is not likely to occur, as the dustiness test indicates low or very low formation of dusts.
Justification for classification or non-classification
No classification is proposed. LD50 values of substances used for read-across are generally >5000 mg/kg bw.
