Remarks:

Self-Classification and labelling according to CLP / GHS is based on evaluation of available data, respecting legal binding requirements.

However, in certain cases classification would not be necessary according to actual data set:

- acute toxicity (oral ingestion and inhalation): based on available lethal dose values selenium does not meet the criteria for classification as acute toxic category 3 or 4

- aquatic chronic toxicity: based on environmental reference values and considering the low water solubility of elemental selenium, the substance does not meet the criteria for classification as aquatic chronic 4.

According to CLP; EU GHS (Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008), Annex I metals in massive form do not require a label, if they do not present a hazard to human health by inhalation, ingestion or contact with skin or to the aquatic environment in the form in which it is placed on the market, although classified as hazardous. Suppliers referring to this exemption must ensure that the related criteria are met.
