Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The substance is readily biodegradable, therefore hydrolysis can be waived.

A first-order reaction rate Kd of 0.039 +/- 0.008 was calculated for DCM disappearance in samples that were kept in the dark. This corresponds to a half-life of about 1.5 years (Dilling et al.1975 )

DCM is hydrolytically stable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Half-life for hydrolysis:
1.5 yr
at the temperature of:
298 K

Additional information

Dichloromethane is not easily hydrolysed under normal environmental conditions. A half life of 1.5 year is reported by Dilling et. al (1975). Other studies - albeit under uncommon environmental conditions - support these findings.
