Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Hydrolysis: Half-life = <1 min at 25°C and pH 7 (OECD 111)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

No hydrolysis study is available for the test substance. However, a reliable study according to OECD 111 is available for the related substance dichloro(dimethyl)silane. This substance is fully hydrolysed within a few minutes at pH 4, 7 and 9 and 1.5°C. This is also the case for other chlorosilanes for which measured data is available. Therefore, it can be concluded that the submission substance will hydrolyse rapidly under environmentally relevant conditions and no further testing is necessary.

The expected initial hydrolysis products for chlorodimethylsilane and dimethylsilanediol and hydrogen chloride. The Si-H bond may also hydrolyse to give dimethylsilanediol, however, the timescale for this reaction is not known.
