First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Eyes: Rinse immediately with large amounts of water, seek medical
attention.
Emergency measure - Skin: Wash the contaminated areas with water.
Emergency measure - Ingestion: Seek medical attention.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Combustion products may contain carbon, nitrogen, sulphur
and phosphorous oxides and hydrogen chloride gas. [UK c.a.
Water spray, foam, carbon dioxide and dry powder are
assumed to be suitable extinguishing agents].

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Powder: Sweep up and dispose of at a controlled waste site
or incinerate at an authorised installation. Solution: Soak
up using absorbent material and incinerate or dispose of at
a controlled site. Do not allow waste water concentrations
to exceed 1 mg/l

Handling and storage

Handling: Avoid dust formation. If dust formation cannot be avoided,
take suitable measures to avoid dust inhalation. Avoid
contact with eye and skin. Wear eye and skin protection.

Storage: No special precautions.

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: The substance cannot be recovered after use.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: Not applicable [UK c.a.: The French c.a. have been asked to
find out what chemical treatment is possible to reduce the
irritation effects and toxicity to fish].

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Not advisable

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Preferred method. [UK c.a.: carbon, nitrogen, sulphur and
phosphorus oxides and hydrogen chloride gas may be formed.
Use suitable stack gas purification].

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: Not advisable as the substance is not biodegradable and is
toxic to fish.

Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: After application to the acrylic fibre the substance cannot
be recovered.

Public at large - Possibility of neutralisation: Not applicable to substance bound to fibre.

Public at large - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Material containing the substance may be disposed of at a
controlled tip.

Public at large - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Material containing the substance may be incinerated.

Public at large - Possibility of destruction - water purification: Not applicable for acrylic fibres.
