- The incidence of allergic contact dermatitis was analysed in 79 dentists and 46 dental nurses referred during 1990 - 2000 for consultation to the Nofer Institute of Occupational Medicine, Lodz, Poland. Allergic contact dermatitis was diagnosed from the positive results of patch tests and type I allergy to latex and common environmental allergens from the positive results of prick tests.

Administration: Patch tests were applied and inspected according to the guidelines of the International Contact Dermatitis Research Group (Fregert S: Manual of Contact Dermatitis, ed 2., Copenhagen, Munksgaard, 1981).
Results and discussion
- Results of examinations:
- - Contact dermatitis (at least 1 positive result of the patch test) was diagnosed in 56 (70.9 %) dentists and 34 (73.9 %) dental nurses. Among the most frequent sensitizers were acrylates with 25.3 %. Allergy to acrylates was detected in 20 dentists of which 8 reacted to 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate and 5 to 2-hydroxypropyl acrylate, respectively.
