First-aid measures

Description of first aid measures
First aid personnel should pay attention to their own safety. If the patient is likely to become
unconscious, place and transport in stable sideways position (recovery position). Immediately
remove contaminated clothing.

If inhaled:
Keep patient calm, remove to fresh air, seek medical attention. Immediately administer a
corticosteroid from a controlled/metered dose inhaler.

On skin contact:
Immediately wash thoroughly with plenty of water, apply sterile dressings, consult a skin specialist.

On contact with eyes:
Immediately wash affected eyes for at least 15 minutes under running water with eyelids held open,
consult an eye specialist.

On ingestion:

Do not induce vomiting. Immediately rinse mouth and then drink 200-300 ml of water, seek medical
attention.
Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed
Symptoms: Information, i.e. additional information on symptoms and effects may be included in the
GHS labeling phrases available in Section 2 and in the Toxicological assessments available in
Section 11.
Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed
Treatment: Treat according to symptoms (decontamination, vital functions), no known specific
antidote. Pulmonary odema prophylaxis. Medical monitoring for at least 24 hours.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media
Suitable extinguishing media:
water spray, dry powder, foam, carbon dioxide

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture
nitrogen oxides, carbon oxides
The substances/groups of substances mentioned can be released in case of fire. Vapours may form
explosive mixture with air.

Advice for fire-fighters
Special protective equipment:
Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and chemical-protective clothing.

Further information:
Cool endangered containers with water-spray. Suppress gases/vapours/mists with water spray jet.
Collect contaminated extinguishing water separately, do not allow to reach sewage or effluent
systems. Dispose of fire debris and contaminated extinguishing water in accordance with official
regulations.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures
Use personal protective clothing. Keep unprotected persons away. Avoid all sources of ignition: heat,
sparks, open flame. Ensure adequate ventilation. Wear respiratory protection if ventilation is
inadequate. Avoid contact with the skin, eyes and clothing.

Environmental precautions
Do not discharge into drains/surface waters/groundwater.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up
For small amounts: Pick up with suitable appliance and dispose of.
For large amounts: Pick up with suitable appliance and dispose of.
Cleaning operations should be carried out only while wearing breathing apparatus. Avoid sources of
ignition. Clean contaminated floors and objects thoroughly with water and detergents, observing
environmental regulations. Collect waste in suitable containers, which can be labeled and sealed.
Incinerate or take to a special waste disposal site in accordance with local authority regulations.

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling
Ensure thorough ventilation of stores and work areas. Handle in accordance with good industrial
hygiene and safety practice. When using do not eat, drink or smoke. Hands and/or face should be
washed before breaks and at the end of the shift.

Protection against fire and explosion:
Prevent electrostatic charge - sources of ignition should be kept well clear - fire extinguishers should
be kept handy.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities
Segregate from acids and acid forming substances.
Further information on storage conditions: Keep container tightly closed in a cool, well-ventilated
place. Keep container dry. Keep away from sources of ignition - No smoking.

Storage stability:
Storage temperature: <= 30 °C
Storage duration: 24 Months
From the data on storage duration in this safety data sheet no agreed statement regarding the
warrantee of application properties can be deduced.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Control parameters
Components with occupational exposure limits
102-69-2: Tripropylamine
142-84-7: Dipropylamine

Exposure controls
Personal protective equipment
Respiratory protection:
Respiratory protection in case of vapour/aerosol release. Combination filter for gases/vapours of
organic compounds and solid and liquid particles (f.e. EN 14387 Type A-P2)

Hand protection:
Chemical resistant protective gloves (EN ISO 374-1)
Performance level 6, corresponding to a breakthrough time of >480 min according to EN ISO 374-1
fluoroelastomer (FKM) - 0.7 mm coating thickness
nitrile rubber (NBR) - 0.4 mm coating thickness
Performance level 5, corresponding to a breakthrough time of >240 min according to EN ISO 374-1
chloroprene rubber (CR) - 0.5 mm coating thickness
Performance level 4, corresponding to a breakthrough time of >120 min according to EN ISO 374-1
polyvinylchloride (PVC) - 0.7 mm coating thickness
Performance level 3, corresponding to a breakthrough time of >60 min according to EN ISO 374-1
butyl rubber (butyl) - 0.7 mm coating thickness
Supplementary note: The specifications are based on tests, literature data and information of glove
manufacturers or are derived from similar substances by analogy. Due to many conditions (e.g. temperature) it must be considered, that the practical usage of a chemical-protective glove in
practice may be much shorter than the permeation time determined through testing.
Manufacturer's directions for use should be observed because of great diversity of types.

Eye protection:
Tightly fitting safety goggles (cage goggles) (e.g. EN 166) and face shield.

Body protection:
chemical-protection suit (f.e. according to EN 14605)

General safety and hygiene measures
Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice. Wearing of closed work
clothing is required additionally to the stated personal protection equipment. Contact with eyes and
skin must be avoided. Do not breathe vapour/spray. Take off immediately all contaminated clothing.
Store work clothing separately. Gloves must be inspected regularly and prior to each use. Replace if
necessary (e.g. pinhole leaks).

Stability and reactivity

Reactivity
Vapours may form explosive mixture with air.
Corrosion to metals: Corrosive effects to metal are not anticipated. In the presence of water or
moisture metal corrosion cannot be excluded.
Formation of
flammable gases:
Remarks: Forms no flammable gases in the
presence of water.

Possibility of hazardous reactions

Strong exothermic reaction with acids.

Conditions to avoid
Avoid all sources of ignition: heat, sparks, open flame. See SDS section 7 - Handling and storage.

Incompatible materials
Substances to avoid:
acids, nitrosating agents

Hazardous decomposition products
Possible decomposition products:
nitrosamines
Thermal decomposition products:
carbon oxides, nitrogen oxides, nitrous gases

Disposal considerations

Waste treatment methods
Incinerate in suitable incineration plant, observing local authority regulations.

Contaminated packaging:
Contaminated packaging should be emptied as far as possible; then it can be passed on for
recycling after being thoroughly cleaned.
