Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Dissociation constant [tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol]: not relevant

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In accordance with section 1 of REACH Annex XI, the study does not need to be conducted for the substance because there are no groups present in the molecule that are expected to ionize within an environmentally relevant pH range. However, the dissociation constant of the hydroxyl group has been predicted using SPARC (pKa = 15).

While the hydroxyl group is ionisable, tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol is an extremely weak acid and will only dissociate under strongly basic conditions. In the range of pH usually considered relevant to the human body and environment, i.e. pH 2-9, the substance will be non-ionised. Therefore, there is no need to conduct further testing.
