First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Remove to fresh air. Loosen tight clothing. Oxygen may be
administered if breathing is difficult. Seek immediate
medical attention, if required.
Emergency measure - Eyes: Irrigate affected eye(s) with copious amounts of water for
at least 15 minutes, keeping eyelids open. Do not use eye
ointment. Seek immediate medical attention.
Emergency measure - Skin: Remove contaminated clothing. Wash affected area with
copious amounts of water and non-abrasive soap for at least
15 minutes. If irritation persists seek medical attention.
Emergency measure - Ingestion: Seek immediate medical attention and show the container or
label. Inducted vomiting should be considered for
significant ingestions if the person is conscious and not
experiencing convulsions.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Small fire: Use dry chemical powder

Large fire: Use water spray, fog or foam. Do not use water
jet.

Product arising from burning: Hazardous decomposition products may consist of COx, NOx and
HCL.

Protective equipment: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and full protective
clothing.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Wear appropriate personal protective equipment to prevent
inhalation of dust or fumes from spill and to prevent skin
or eye contact. As a minimum this should include: splash
goggles, coveralls of low permeablity with cuffs, double
gloves, shoe covers and an approved respirator with high
efficiency particulate(HEPA) filters or cartridges.


Collect spilled solids with a high efficiency particulate
air (HEPA) filtered vacuum unit or moisten and pick-up so as
to minimize dust generation. Finish by cleaning thoroughly
with detergent and water and dispose of according to local
and regional authority requirements.

Handling and storage

Handling: The substance should be stored, handled and used under
conditions of good industrial hygiene and in conformity with
regulations in order to avoid exposure to the maximum
extent technically feasible. Avoid dust when handling and
avoid all possible sources of ignition (spark or flame).
Engineering controls in the form of local exhaust
ventilation should be provided. Specific areas should be
designated and restricted to persons who are trained and
qualified to work with these materials wearing personal
protective equipment. This should include impervious
clothing such as gloves in conformance with EN374, lab coat,
shoe covers, apron or coverall in conformance with EN368.
When engineering controls are not sufficient to control
exposure approved respiratory protection should be provided.

Storage: Store in a well ventilated area. Keep container sealed at
ambient temperature and humidity.

Packaging of the substance and or preparation: Store in sturdy containers or use an unbreakable outer
container e.g. 50-80 litre fibre drums with polyethylene
liners.

Stability and reactivity

Danger other than fire: None reported.

Chemical reaction with water: Mixing with water may liberate HCl fumes.

Dust explosion: Material exhibits weak explosion characteristics if ignited
as a dust cloud. Provide suitable bonding and grounding for
containers and process equipment to control static charges.
Nitrogen blanketing is required for any large-scale
operations with this compound. Powder handling equipment
such as dust collectors, dryers and mills nmay require
additional protective measures (e.g. explosion venting).

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: The substance should not normally be discharged to the
environment.

The substance may be recycled to the extent of more than or
equal to 95% or recovered.

environment.

Trace quantities in aqueous washes can be treated in
secondary biological WWTP before discharge to municipal
treatment works. The substance should not normally be
discharged directly to the sewage system or the aqueous
environment.
