Description of key information

L-Cysteine induced no lethal effects in fish at 100 mg/L or below : the LC50 is > 100 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The acute toxicity of L-Cysteine to zebra fish (Danio rerio) in a 96‑hour semi-static test with daily test medium renewal according to the EU Commission Directive 92/69/, Part C.1, the Commission Regulation (EC) No 440/2008, Part C.1 and the OECD Guideline for Testing of Chemicals No. 203 (1992) was investigated.A limit test was performed in accordance with the guidelines to demonstrate that the test item has no toxic effect on the test organisms at the nominal concentration of 100 mg/L. Thus, the only nominal concentration tested was 100 mg/L. In conclusion, the test item L-Cysteine had no acute toxic effects on zebra fish up to the nominal concentration of 100 mg/L under the present test conditions.
