Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Acutely toxic to aquatic life. The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.

The LC50 (96h) value of the test substance on rainbow trout was determined to be ca. 4.39 mg/L in a GLP flow-through study carried out according to OECD 203 (BASF AG 12F0231/985045, 1998, triethylene glycol was used as a vehicle). This result is supported by a LC50 (96h) between 2.2 and 4.6 mg/L which was determined in another GLP study according to OECD 203 (BASF AG 17F0244/925042, 1993, Tween 80 was used as a vehicle). Based on these data the test substance is considered to be acutely toxic to fish.

A GLP guideline study according to OECD 202 was conducted in order to investigate the toxicity of the test substance to daphnids. The results revealed no toxic effects of the test substance on the organisms (BASF AG 02/0333/50/1, 2003). Hence, the test substance is not considered to be harmful to aquatic invertebrates.

The toxicity of the structurally related substance CAS 118800-30-9 to aquatic algae was investigated in a GLP guideline study according to OECD 201.In this study, an acute EC50 (96h) of 27 mg/L for the growth rate of Desmodesmus subspicatus as well as an NOEC (72h) value of 0.78 mg/L were determined (BASF AG 98/0634/60/1, 1998). These results are considered to be adaptable for the test substance due to the structural similarities and identical core-molecules of those substances. Based on these values the test substance is considered to be acutely harmful to aquatic algae.

In a short-term respiration test similar to OECD 209 an EC20 of approx. 1000 mg/L was determined (BASF AG 92/1991/08/11983, 1992). Additionally, in an oxygen consumption test according to DIN 38412 part 27 using Pseudomonas putida an EC10 of >= 1000 mg/L was determined (BASF AG 92/1991/71/1, 1993). The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.
