With high probability acutely not harmful to aquatic organisms.
The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.
This aquatic toxicity assessment was based on the following data:
No assignable data on the acute toxicity of the test substance to fish is available. The LC50 value of a structurally similar substance on Leuciscus idus was determined to be between 220 and 460 mg/L in a guideline study according to DIN 38 412 (BASF 1989). This result is supported by a study summary in which a LC50 greater than 700 mg/L for the test substance was obtained (BASF AG, considered to be not assignable because only a short summary is available.). Based on these data, the test substance is considered with high probability acutely not harmful to fish.
The EC0 value of the test substance on Daphnia magna was determined to exceed 100 mg/L (analytically verified value) in a GLP guideline study according to OECD 202 (BASF 2002). This result is supported by an EC50 > 100 mg/L value obtained in a GLP guideline study (BASF 2004). Based on these data, the test substance is considered with high probability acutely not harmful to aquatic invertebrates.
The acute toxicity of the test substance on Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata was measured in a GLP guideline study according to OECD 201. The EC50 value on the growth rate of the organisms was determined to be greater than 320 mg/L (nominal value, analytically verified; BASF 2012). Therefore, the test substance is considered with high probability acutely not harmful to aquatic algae.
The EC20 value of the test item on activated sludge was found to exceed 1000 mg/L in a GLP guideline study according to OECD 209 (BASF 2001).
