Description of key information
Expected non-toxic to aquatic algae.

Additional information
No specific information exists on the short-term toxicity to algae of lysozyme.
However considering that Lysozyme is naturally occurring in many organisms, including aquatic organisms, it is expected to be non-toxic for aquatic life.
In order to support this consideration below are reported the data available for Lipase, from the HERA documentation:
EC50 for inhibition of growth at 72-h = 97 mg active enzyme protein (aep)/L.
EC50 for inhibition of maximum growth rates at 24 and 72 h = 99 mg aep/L.
NOEL = 40 mg aep/L [1 -2]
Data on Lipase describe the enzyme to have very low toxicity and this supports the consideration that Lysozyme may be characterized as non-toxic to aquatic algae. Since data available are not specific for Lysozyme, it is preferred to make a qualitative assessment.
