Additional information

According to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, general endpoint requirements for a registration in the tonnage band 10 - 100 (Annex VIII ) include data on the short-term aquatic toxicity to organisms of three trophic levels (fish, aquatic invertebrates and algae) and data on the toxicity to aquatic microorganisms. Tests on all trophic levels (fish, Daphnia, algae, aquatic microorganisms) were performed to examine the aquatic toxicity of 3,3,4,4,5,5,6,6,7,7,8,8,8-tridecafluorooctyl 2-chloropropenoic acid ester (CAS 96383-55-0).

Since the substance has a low water solubility (< 0.6 mg/L) the test item in the acute tests with fish, Daphnia and algae were initially suspended in solubilizer. The test concentrations were analytically verified in all three aquatic toxicity tests. No significant effects on fish and algae were observed during the test duration, while aquatic invertebrates (Daphnia) were affected very slightly at the highest test concentration. Nevertheless the E(L)C50 values for all three trophic levels are clearly above the highest attainable test concentration.

The study with aquatic microorganisms shows, that the substance does not significantly inhibit the respiration of activated sludge microorganisms. Hence, no effects of the substance are expected during the wastewater treatment in the sewage treatment plant.
