Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information
Skin and Eye irritation studies were conducted on the analog source chemical n–butyl acrylate. These results are considered to be appropriate for the target chemical 2-methylbutyl acrylate.
Skin Irritation: Irritating
Eye Irritation: Irritating
Key value for chemical safety assessment
Additional information
The Skin Irritation study was conducted by applying n-butyl acrylate to the skin of white rabbits for 1, 5, and 15 minutes in 2 animals. The test material was washed between applications. Additionally, 2 other animals had the test substance applied for 20 hours. In both cases, erythema and edema scores were greater than 2 and the erythema was not fully reversible within 8 days, which was the final day of the test.
Eye Irritation: 0.5 ml of the test substance was applied to 5 animals. 4 of 5 had moderate to severe injury, including 2 with iritis.

Justification for classification or non-classification
Skin and eye irritation scores meet the DSD and CLP criteria for classification as skin and eye irritation. 2-MBA is classified as Xi 36/37/38 down to 10% and as Skin Irr 2, Eye Irr 2 and STOT SE 3 H335( May cause respiratory irritation) down to 10%.
