Short-term toxicity tests for algae and Daphnia are available for the substance (coming from read-across from Piperonal). The EC50 values for both algae and Daphnia are between 10 and 100 (31 mg/L for algae and 52 mg/l for Daphnia). Based on the lowest available acute data for algae with an EC50 value of 31 mg/L, the substance does not need to be classified for acute toxicity.

One chronic value for algae is available which is EC10 of 4.8 mg/l, based on which the substance does not need to be classified.

As one chronic value is available, for algae, the chronic C&L needs to be derived on both chronic and acute toxicity data and the most stringent outcome needs to be taken into consideration.

The only chronic available value is the ErC10 of algae being 4.8 mg/L. Then the acute data of the other trophic level needs to be taken into account. The EC50 for Daphnia is 52 mg/L, the substance is readily biodegradable and its log Kow is <4 (0.8). In view of this, the substance does not need to be classified for chronic toxicity, based on acute data, according to Figure 4.1.1 and Table 4.1.1, (b) iii. Overall, it can be concluded that the substance does not need to be classified for the environment, according to CLP (EC 1272/2008 and its amendments).
