Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Administrative data

First-aid measures

On contact with eyes : Flush with water.

On skin contact : Flush with water. Wipe off. Obtain medical attention.

If inhaled : Remove to fresh air. Obtain medical attention.

On ingestion : Obtain medical attention.

Fire-fighting measures

Suitable extinguishing media : Carbon dioxide, foam or dry powder.

Unsuitable extinguishing

media

: Do not use water.

Hazards during fire fighting : See reactivity data.

Special protective

equipment/procedures

: A self-contained respirator and protective clothing should be worn. Fires are difficult to

extinguish by conventional methods. Do not put water directly on the fire, however water

may be used to knock down the corrosive vapor cloud down wind of fire. Apply medium

expansion (30:1) AFFF alcohol compatible foam. Applying foam initially will release

significant amounts of corrosive hydrogen chloride vapors which will be reduced when

uniform blanketing is achieved. Use water spray to keep fire exposed containers cool. Do

not allow any extinguishing media to enter container.

Hazardous Combustion

Products

: Carbon oxides and traces of incompletely burned carbon compounds. Formaldehyde.

Chlorine compounds.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions : Wear proper protective equipment.

Precautions to protect the

environment

: Prevent from spreading or entering into drains, ditches or rivers by using sand, earth or

other appropriate barriers.

Methods for cleaning up : Determine the need to evacuate or isolate the area according to your local emergency

plan. Very large spills should be contained by bunding, etc... procedures. Mop, wipe or

soak up with absorbent material and place in a vented container.

Handling and storage

Advice on safe handling : Avoid skin and eye contact. Do not breathe vapour. Do not ingest. Local ventilation is

required. General ventilation is required.

Advice on storage : Keep only in a vented container in a well ventilated area. Keep container closed and store

away from water or moisture.

Specific uses : Refer to technical data sheet available on request.

Unsuitable packaging

materials

: None known.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Engineering Controls : Ventilation : Refer to Section 7 of MSDS

Exposure controls for hazardous components

Name CAS-No. Exposure Limits

Dichloromethane 75-09-2 100 ppm TWA

300 ppm STEL

350 mg/m3 TWA

1,060 mg/m3 STEL

Personal protection equipment

Respiratory protection : A self contained respirator should be worn if the product is used in large quantities,

confined spaces or other circumstances where the OEL is likely to be approached or

exceeded.

Hand protection : Chemical protective gloves or gauntlets should be worn and removed correctly to avoid

skin contamination: Silver shield(TM). 4H(TM). Regarding glove's breakthrough

time...,contact your chemical protective glove supplier.

Eye protection : Safety goggles should be worn.

Skin protection : Wear impervious overalls in circumstances where significant skin contact can occur.

Hygiene measures : Exercise good industrial hygiene practice. Wash after handling, especially before eating,

drinking or smoking. Remove contaminated clothing immediately.

Environmental exposure

controls

: Refer to section 6 and 12.

Additional information : These precautions are for room temperature handling. Use at elevated temperature or

aerosol/spray applications may require added precautions. For further information

regarding the use of silicones / organic oils in consumer aerosol applications, please refer

to the guidance document regarding the use of these types of materials in consumer

aerosol applications that has been developed by the silicone industry (www.SEHSC.com)

or contact the Dow Corning customer service group.

Stability and reactivity

Stability : Stable under normal usage conditions.

Conditions to avoid : None established.

Materials to avoid : Reaction with water or even atmospheric moisture will produce large amounts of hydrogen chloride vapour.

Hazardous decomposition products: See section 11 of MSDS

Disposal considerations

Product disposal : Dispose of in accordance with local regulations. According to the European Waste Catalogue, Waste Codes are not product specific, but application specific. Waste codes should be assigned by the user, preferably in discussion with the waste disposal authorities.

Packaging disposal : Dispose of in accordance with local regulations. Waste codes should be assigned by the user, preferably in discussion with the waste disposal authorities.
