First-aid measures
Emergency measure - Inhalation:
Move the person away from the contaminated area. Make the affected person rest. If necessary seek medical advice.
Emergency measure - Eyes:
Immediately rinse with plenty of running water for a prolonged period, (at least 15 minutes) whilst keeping the eyes wide open. 'If irritation persists, consult a doctor. Show the Safety Datasheet to the doctor.
Emergency measure - Skin:
Remove all contaminated clothing and footwear. Wash immediately and thoroughly for a prolonged period (at least 15 minutes)
Emergency measure - Ingestion:
Never attempt to induce vomiting. Do not give anything to drink.
Consulter immédiatement et obligatoirement un médecin.
Montrer la FDS au médecin.
Fire-fighting measures
Appropriate extinguishing agents: Water spray, Foam, Powders, Carbon dioxide (CO2)
extinguishing agents advised against: Strong water jet.
Specific hazards : Flammable liquid. Toxic gases are released during combustion
Product arising from burning: Toxic gases are released during combustion
Specific fire fighting methods : Use appropriate means for fighting adjacent fires.
Stay upwind.
Evacuate the personnel away from the fumes.
Cool down the containers/equipment exposed to heat with a water spray.
Do not breathe fumes.
Protective equipment: Complete protective clothing. Self-contained breathing apparatus.
Accidental release measures
Personal precautions :
Avoid contact with skin and eyes.
Do not breathe vapours.
No flames, No sparks. Eliminate all sources of ignition.
Do not approach from downwind.
Protective equipment:
- appropriate gloves.
- safety glasses.
- water-proof boots.
Mark out the contaminated area with signs and prevent access to
unauthorized personnel.
Warn of danger.
Local evacuation is necessary from the vapour emission zone.
Shelter from vapours by keeping upwind.
Stop the leak.
Turn leaking containers leak-side up to prevent the escape of
liquid.
Ventilate spillage area.
Environmental precautions :
Contain the spilled material by bunding.
Methods for cleaning up:
- Recovery : Recover as much of the product as possible.
Vacuum up the product.
Collect up the product and place it in a spare container suitably labelled and with a sealed closure.
Keep the recovered product for subsequent disposal.
- Neutralization : Absorb non-recoverable liquid with saw-dust or an inert absorbent material.
- Cleaning Decontamination : Wash with sodium carbonate solution (5% Na2 CO3).Then wash with plenty of water. Recover the cleaning water for subsequent disposal.
- Disposal : For disposal of solid materials or residues refer to section 13 of the SDS:"Disposal considerations"
Handling and storage
HANDLING
Technical measures : Vapour extraction at source. Flameproof ventilation, electrical equipment and lighting. Closed system. Earth the equipment.
Avoid contact with water or humidity. Avoid any direct contact with the product.
STORAGE
Technical measures : The floor of the depot should be impermeable and designed to form a water-tight basin.
Storage conditions: Store away from any source of ignition, in a cool, well-ventilated area, the container tightly closed and dry.
Incompatible products : Strong oxidizing agents.
Packaging :
Product must only be kept in the original packaging. Metal drum with a polyethylene flexible container.
Bulk product : General purpose stainless steel tankers.
For small quantities: Plastic bottles, Glass bottles.
Recommended Packaging materials: Stainless steel, Polyethylene, Glass.

Exposure controls / personal protection
This substance is handled under Strictly Controlled Conditions in accordance with REACH regulation Article 17(3) for on-site isolated intermediates and, in case the substance is transported to other sites for further processing, the substance should be handled at these sites under the Strictly Controlled Conditions as specified in REACH regulation Article 18(4). Site documentation to support safe handling arrangements including the selection of engineering, administrative and personal protective equipment controls in accordance with risk-based management systems is available at each Manufacturing site.
Written confirmation of application of Strictly Controlled Conditions has been received from every affected Distributor and Downstream Manufacturer/User of the Registrant’s intermediate.
Stability and reactivity
Stability : Stable at room temperature.
- Materials to avoid : Reacts with: strong oxidizing agents with the release of heat
- Hazardous decomposition products : On thermal decomposition (pyrolysis) releases highly toxic gases: Hydrofluoric acid, Phosgene.
