Description of key information

Short-term toxicity to fish

D-8 was tested for acute toxicity to fish in a semistatic 96-hour test according to EU Method C.1. The LC50 value (96 hours) for D-8 in the Red Killifish was determined to be 18.8 mg/L.

Long-term toxicity to fish

In an OECD 215 study, exposure to D-8 did not induce any estrogenic effect, as evidenced by an oviduct formation, up to a concentration of 2 mg/L. The NOEC of D-8 was considered to be greater than 2 mg/L.

Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

D-8 was tested for toxicity to Daphnia in a 48-h static immobilisation test and the EC50 value was determined to be 12 mg/L.

Long-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

D-8 was tested for 21-day juvenile production study in Daphnia magna according to OECD Guideline 202. The 21-day median lethal concentration (LC50) of D-8 to parental Daphnia was calculated to be 2.70 mg/L. The 21-day EC50 values for inhibition of reproduction were 1.90 mg/L based on the total number of juveniles produced at each mean measured concentration, and 2.94 mg/L based on the mean cumulative number of juveniles produced per adult. In conclusion, D-8 significantly affected both the survival of the parental generation and their ability to produce viable juveniles at concentrations above 0.139 mg/L. Therefore, NOEC was determined to be 0.139 mg/L.

Toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria

The 50 % effect concentrations for average specific growth rate (ErC50) and mean biomass (EbC50) for D-8, respectively, were found to be 5.62 mg/L (95 % confidence limits 4.63 and 16.7 mg/L) and 2.22 mg/L (95 % confidence limits 1.90 and 4.63 mg/L). The no-observed-effect concentration (NOEC) for growth rate and biomass was 0.461 mg/L.
