Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

In the assessment of lithium neodecanoate, read-across to the assessment entities lithium cations and neodecanoate anions is applied since the ions of lithium neodecanoate determine its fate and toxicity in the environment.

A 21-d semi-static chronic toxicity test of lithium metal and Daphnia magna (reproduction) resulted in 21-d NOEC and LOEC values of 1.70 g Li/L and 2.53 mg Li/L, respectively.

Regarding the long-term toxicity of neodecanoate to aquatic invertebrates, a 21-d NOEC of 4.78 mg/L neoheptanoic acid (structural analogue of neodecanoic acid) for reproduction of Daphnia magna indicates a low potential for toxicity that is confirmed by the chronic Value (ChV) of 1.7 mg/L (QSAR-based estimate) for daphnids.

Thus, lithium neodecanoate has a low potential for long-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates.
