First-aid measures

4.1 Description of first aid measures

General advice

:

Move out of dangerous area. Consult a physician. Show this safety data sheet to the doctor in attendance. Do not leave the victim unattended.

If inhaled

:

If unconscious, place in recovery position and get medical attention immediately.

In case of skin contact

:

If on skin, rinse well with water.

If on clothes, remove clothes.

Wash contaminated clothing before reuse.

In case of eye contact

:

Small amounts splashed into eyes can cause irreversible tis-sue damage and blindness.

Remove contact lenses.

In the case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice.

Continue rinsing eyes during transport to hospital.

Protect unharmed eye.

Keep eye wide open while rinsing.

If swallowed

:

Clean mouth with water and drink afterwards plenty of water.

Keep respiratory tract clear.

Do NOT induce vomiting.

Do not give milk or alcoholic beverages.

Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.

If symptoms persist, call a physician.

4.2 Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed

Symptoms

:

Inhalation may provoke the following symptoms:

Shortness of breath

Asthma

Ingestion may provoke the following symptoms:

Stomach/intestinal disorders

In case of eye contact

Excessive lachrymation

4.3 Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed

Fire-fighting measures

5.1 Extinguishing media

Suitable extinguishing media

:

Carbon dioxide (CO2)

Unsuitable extinguishing media

:

High volume water jet

5.2 Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture

Specific hazards during fire-fighting

:

Do not allow run-off from fire fighting to enter drains or water courses.

Hazardous combustion prod-ucts

:

Hazardous decomposition products due to incomplete com-bustion

5.3 Advice for firefighters

Special protective equipment for firefighters

:

Wear self-contained breathing apparatus for firefighting if nec-essary.

Further information

:

Collect contaminated fire extinguishing water separately. This must not be discharged into drains.

Fire residues and contaminated fire extinguishing water must be disposed of in accordance with local regulations.

For safety reasons in case of fire, cans should be stored sepa-rately in closed containments.

Use a water spray to cool fully closed containers.

Accidental release measures

6.1 Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures

Personal precautions

:

Use personal protective equipment.

6.2 Environmental precautions

Environmental precautions

:

Prevent product from entering drains.

Prevent further leakage or spillage if safe to do so.

If the product contaminates rivers and lakes or drains inform respective authorities.

6.3 Methods and material for containment and cleaning up

Methods for cleaning up

:

Contain spillage, and then collect with non-combustible ab-sorbent material, (e.g. sand, earth, diatomaceous earth, ver-miculite) and place in container for disposal according to local / national regulations (see section 13).

6.4 Reference to other sections

For personal protection see section 8.

Handling and storage

7.1 Precautions for safe handling

Advice on safe handling

:

Avoid formation of aerosol.

Do not breathe vapours/dust.

Avoid contact with skin and eyes.

For personal protection see section 8.

Smoking, eating and drinking should be prohibited in the ap-plication area.

Provide sufficient air exchange and/or exhaust in work rooms.

Advice on protection against fire and explosion

:

Do not spray on a naked flame or any incandescent material. Take necessary action to avoid static electricity discharge (which might cause ignition of organic vapours). Keep away from open flames, hot surfaces and sources of ignition.

Hygiene measures

:

Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. General industrial hygiene practice.

7.2 Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities

Requirements for storage areas and containers

:

Store in cool place. Containers which are opened must be carefully resealed and kept upright to prevent leakage. Electri-cal installations / working materials must comply with the technological safety standards. To maintain product quality, do not store in heat or direct sunlight.

Further information on stor-age stability

:

Keep in a dry place. No decomposition if stored and applied as directed.

Exposure controls / personal protection

8.1 Control parameters

Occupational Exposure Limits Components CAS-No. Value type (Form of exposure) Control parameters Basis

(2-methoxymeth-ylethoxy)propanol

34590-94-8

TWA

50 ppm

Further information: Absorption of the agent through the skin, the mucous membranes or the eyes makes up an important part of total exposure. This absorption can be the result of direct contact as well as the presence in air.

8.2 Exposure controls

Engineering measures

Handle only in a place equipped with local exhaust (or other appropriate exhaust).

Personal protective equipment

Eye protection

:

Wear face-shield and protective suit for abnormal processing problems.

Wear safety glasses with side shields or goggles.

Hand protection

Material

:

Nitrile rubber

Break through time

:

> 480 min

Glove thickness

:

0,3 mm

Glove length

:

Long sleeve gloves

Skin and body protection

:

Impervious clothing

Footwear protecting against chemicals

Protective suit

Choose body protection in relation to its type, to the concen-tration and amount of dangerous substances, and to the spe-cific work-place.

Working clothes must not consist of textiles, which show a dangerous melting behaviour in case of fire.

Respiratory protection

:

When workers are facing concentrations above the exposure limit they must use appropriate certified respirators.

In the case of vapour formation use a respirator with an ap-proved filter.

Recommended Filter type:

Filter type

:

ABEK-filter

Stability and reactivity

Stable at normal ambient temperature and pressure.

10.2 Chemical stability

No decomposition if stored and applied as directed.

10.3 Possibility of hazardous reactions

Hazardous reactions

:

Vapours may form explosive mixture with air.

Stable under recommended storage conditions.

10.4 Conditions to avoid

Conditions to avoid

:

Heat, flames and sparks.

Extremes of temperature and direct sunlight.

10.5 Incompatible materials

Materials to avoid

:

Oxidizing agents

10.6 Hazardous decomposition products

No decomposition if stored normally.

Disposal considerations

13.1 Waste treatment methods

Product

:

Dispose of in accordance with the European Directives on waste and hazardous waste.

According to the European Waste Catalogue, Waste Codes are not product specific, but application specific.

Waste codes should be assigned by the user, preferably in discussion with the waste disposal authorities.

Do not dispose of waste into sewer.

Do not contaminate ponds, waterways or ditches with chemi-cal or used container.

Send to a licensed waste management company.

Dispose of as hazardous waste in compliance with local and national regulations.

Contaminated packaging

:

Empty remaining contents.

Dispose of contaminated packaging as if unused product.

Do not re-use empty containers.
