Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
28 June 2019
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
UN Manual of Tests and Criteria: Test N.1 (Test method for readily combustible solids)
Version / remarks:
2015
GLP compliance:
no
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

Preliminary test: the test item did not ignite at room temperature using a flame as ignition source being applied for at least 2 minutes. The test item melted.

Main test: in the preliminary test the test item could not be ignited by a flame. Thus, the performance of the main test was not necessary.

Interpretation of results:
other: not classified according to the CLP Regulation (EC 1272/2008)
Conclusions:
In a preliminary screening test, the test item did not ignite at room temperature using a flame as ignition source for at least 2 minutes. The test item melted. Thus, the test item is not considered flammable and it was not necessary to perform a main test.
Executive summary:

The flammability of the test item was evaluated in an experimental study according to the UN Test N.1 Method (UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods: Manual of Tests and Criteria, Rev. 6, 2015, and the UN-Model Regulations, Rev. 20, 2017).

In a preliminary screening test, the test item did not ignite at room temperature using a flame as ignition source for at least 2 minutes. The test item melted. Thus, the test item is not considered flammable and it was not necessary to perform a main test.

Description of key information

Not flammable

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

A preliminary screening test was performed in order to determine flammability; no ignition occurred within two minutes, therefore, no main study was necessary and the substance was considered not flammable. Additionally, the test item did not produce flammable gasses when heated up to 550 °C in a study based on the international test method: VDI 2263.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Disperse Yellow 231 failed to pass the screening test to be tested for flammability. Therefore, it should not to be classified as a flammable solid according to the CLP Regulation (EC 1272/2008).
