Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
UN Manual of Tests and Criteria: Part I: Classification procedures, test methods and criteria relating to explosives of Class 1
Version / remarks:
2015
GLP compliance:
not specified
Test series:
UN Test series 1
Method:
UN Test 1 (b): Koenen test
Parameter:
limiting diameter (mm)
Remarks:
no explosion
Value:
1
Result:
result is considered "-" (negative)
Test series:
UN Test series 2
Method:
UN Test 2 (b): Koenen test
Parameter:
limiting diameter (mm)
Remarks:
no explosion
Value:
1
Result:
result is considered "-" (negative)
Test series:
UN Test series 1
Method:
UN Test 1 (c) (i): Time/pressure test
Parameter:
other: time taken for the pressure to rise from 690 kPa to 2070 kPa
Result:
result is considered "-" (negative)
Remarks on result:
p = 2070 kPa: no
Test series:
UN Test series 2
Method:
UN Test 2 (c) (i): Time/pressure test
Parameter:
other: time taken for the pressure to rise from 690 kPa to 2070 kPa
Result:
result is considered "-" (negative)
Remarks on result:
p = 2070 kPa: no
Test series:
UN Test series 3
Method:
other: BAM Trauzl Test
Parameter:
other: increase in volume of the cavity in the lead block (ml)
Value:
7.5
Result:
result is considered "-" (negative)

-Koenen Test: three tests with a 1.0 mm diameter orifice plate were performed.

No. Sample weight / g Diameter orifice plate / mm Reaction time t 1 / s Reaction time t 2 / s Reaction time t 3 / s Reaction Appearance of tube
1 11.55 1 22 69 >300 t 1+t 2: Flame Unchanged
2 11.38 1 22 66 >300 t 1+t 2: Flame Unchanged
3 10.93 1 19 67 >300 t 1+t 2: Flame Unchanged

t 1: time to first reaction: flame with sparks
t 2: time to second reaction: jet of flame, gradually decreasing until extinguished
t 3: time to main reaction: no reaction

Due to the fact that the test series with a 1.0 mm diameter orifice plate showed no explosion, the UN Transport Regulation Test 1(b) and 2(b) deemed to be "-".

-Time-Pressure Test: Results of tests with the test item

Test 1 Test 2 Test 3
Time [s] at 690 kPa Not reached Not reached Not reached
Time [s] at 2070 kPa Not reached Not reached Not reached
Time for pressure rise [s] -/- -/- -/-

Due to the fact that the test item did not reach a pressure of 2070 kPa, the UN Transport Regulation Test 1(c) and Test 2(c) deemed to be "-".

-Trauzl test: one test with a test item mass 4.0 g was carried out. The volume of the enlarged cavity is 3.0 ml. Normalization to 10 g of the test item, results is an expansion of 7.5 ml per 10 g, therefore the UN Transport Regulation Test F.3 results to be "No". Based on this the UN Transport Regulation Test 1(a) and Test 2(a) deemed to be "-".

Interpretation of results:
other: not classified according to the CLP Regulation (EC 1272/2008)
Conclusions:
In the test on explosive properties according to UN Transport Regulation, Test series 1 and 2, test item showed no explosive properties.
Executive summary:

In the DSC-measurement in closed crucible, the energy of the exothermic decomposition of the test item was above the threshold of -500 J/g. Therefore, further test for explosive properties had to be performed. In the test on explosive properties according to UN Transport Regulation, Test series 1 and 2, the test item showed no explosive properties. According to test results, the test item is classified as follows:

-UN Transport Regulation: test item does not have to be classified as explosive substance in class 1.

-CLP Regulation (EC 1272/2008) Annex 1: 2.1: test item does not have to be classified as explosive substance according to the CLP Regulation (EC 1272/2008) Annex 1: 2.1.

Description of key information

Non explosive.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

In the DSC-measurement the energy of the exothermic decomposition of the test item was above the threshold of -500 J/g. Therefore, further tests for explosive properties had to be performed.

In the test on explosive properties according to UN Transport Regulation, Test series 1 and 2, the test item showed no explosive properties.

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to the results of the test on explosive properties, the test item is classified as following:

-UN Transport Regulation: test item does not have to be classified as explosive substance in class 1.

-CLP Regulation (EC 1272/2008) Annex 1: 2.1: test item does not have to be classified as explosive substance.
