Self-ignition in the Grewer Oven

The investigation of self-ignition in the Grewer Oven for the pure test item shows no self-ignition. Only a self-heating, which started at 260 °C and lead to the maximum temperature of 430 °C (reference temperature 410 °C) was observde. After the measurement the test item in the basket remained unchanged.

The test item in mixture with Kieselguhr shows no self-ignition. Only a self-heating starting at 260 °C was observed and lead to the maximum temperature of 425 °C (reference temperature 410 °C).

Results of the screening test for self-ignition in the Grewer Oven

Experiment Start of effects [°C] Maximum temperature [°C]
Pure test item 260 430
Test item in mixture with Kieselguhr (1:1) 260 425

Final Results / Classification

The pure test item dichromium nitride indicated no self-ignition in the Grewer oven test. Only a self-heating, which started at 260 °C at atmospheric pressure up to the maximum test temperature of 410 °C was observed. Due to the high onset temperature, >220 °C in the Grewer Oven, it can be assumed that theUN Test N.4 using the 25 mm cube sample at 140 °C is negative.

On the basis of the results of the tests on theself-ignition in theGrewer Oven the test item is classified as follows:

UN Transport Regulation:The test item does not meet the classification criteria as self-heating substance in class 4, division 4.2 according to the UN Transport Regulation.

GHS / CLP Regulation EC 1272/2008 Annex 1: 2.11:The test item does not meet the classification criteria as self-heating substance according to GHS/CLP RegulationEC 1272/2008 Annex 1, Section 2.11.

Conclusions:
The pure test item dDichromium nitride indicated no self-ignition in the Grewer oven test. Oonly a self-heating, which started at 260 °C at atmospheric pressure up to the maximum test temperature of 410 °C was observed. Due to the high onset temperature, >220 °C in the Grewer Oven, it can be assumed that the UN Test N.4 using the 25 mm cube sample at 140 °C is negative.

On the basis of the results of the tests on the self-ignition in the Grewer Oven the test item is classified as follows:
UN Transport Regulation: The test item does not meet the classification criteria has not to be classified as self-heating substance in class 4, division 4.2 according to the UN Transport Regulation.
GHS / CLP Regulation EC 1272/2008 Annex 1: 2.11: The test item does not meet the classification criteria has not to be classified as self-heating substance according to GHS/CLP Regulation EC 1272/2008 Annex 1, Section 2.11.
