The sample tube is held in close contact with a thermometeranditcontainsa boiling capillary which is fusedabout1cmaboveits lower end. Upon approach oftheboiling temperature bubbles emerge rapidly fromthelower openendofthecapillary. The boiling temperature isthattemperature at which, on momentary cooling,thestring of bubbles stopsandliquid suddenly rises inthecapillary.
