Description of key information

Half-lifes for indirect photodegradation in water range from 39.6 days to 3301 days, depending on the local conditions.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Adams et al. (1965), cited by Anbar et al. (1967) measured a rate constant for the reaction of 3 -pentanone with Oh radicals as sensitizer in water of 8.1E+08 L/mol*sec. Calculating half lifes with a "best case" OH concentration at summer noon near the water surface of 2.5E-16 mol/L and an average concentration over the whole water column (14 m) of 3.0E-18 mol/L according to measured data from Zepp et al (1987) in swiss lake Greifensee results in half lifes of 39.6 days and 3301 days, respectively.
