Description of key information
Physico-chemical properties of the registered substance were determined from experimental testing or from QSAR approach and supporting study on the constituents of the substance. Some endpointswere waived, based on chemical structure of constituents or experience in handling and use of the substance.
The substance is a dark brown liquid at ambient temperature, with high volatility. It is slightly less dense than water and the water solubility depends on the loading rate of the substance (from slightly to moderately soluble with a loading rate from 303 to 1003 mg/L).
The substance is considered to have surface active potential.
It has potential for bioaccumulation and is classified as a flammable liquid. However, it is not classified as hazardous with regard to explosivity, self-heating and oxidising properties, self-reactive substance and organic peroxide based on CLP criteria.
Additional information
Summary of relevant physico-chemical properties of the test item:
Endpoint |
Data |
Appearance (visual) |
The test item is a dark brown organic liquid at 20 °C and 1 atm. |
Freezing point (OECD 102/EU A1/ crystallizing point) |
The freezing point of the test item is stated as <-20°C |
Boiling point (OECD 103/EU A2, Siwoloboff, dynamic and DSC method) |
No defined boiling point of the test item could be determined Signs, which may be the proof of decomposition of the substance were observed during the Siwoloboff and dynamic tests) but the tests were stopped at about 165 -174°C for safety reasons (bumping) . Only sign of evaporation was observed using the DSC method under inert gas. |
Relative density (OECD 109/EU A3, pycnometer) |
The density of the test item was determined to be 0.9956 ± 0.0010 g/cm3 at 20.0 ± 0.4 °C. |
Granulometry (waiving) |
not applicable (liquid) |
Vapour pressure (OECD 104/EU A4, static method ) |
The Vapour Pressure of the test item was measured at 1979 Pa at 20 °C and 2541 Pa at 25°C (interpolation) High volatility |
Log Kow (OECD 117/EU A.8, HPLC method) |
More than 77%w/w of the constituents of the substance have a logKow > 5 Therefore the substance has potential for bioaccumulation. |
Water solubility (OECD 105/EU A.6, flask method with quantification of the substance by DOC) |
The water solubility of the test item was measured between 80.8 and 232.2 g/L using a loading rate of 303 - 1003 mg/L at 20.0 ± 0.5 °C (pH 4.58 - 5.26; 3 days of equilibrium). The substance is considered as slightly to moderately soluble in water pending on the lodaing rate. |
Surface tension (OECD 115/EU A5, plate method) |
The surface tension of an aqueous solution of the test item (90% of the saturation solubility) was determined to be 55.34 mN/m at 19.7°C. As the result is below the threshold value of 60mN/m, the substance is considered to have surface active potential under the experimental conditions based on EYA5 criteria. However since the structures of the constituents of the substance are not characteristic of true surfactants and considering that it is not the intended use of the substance (i.e. not a desired property), this conclusion should be taken with caution. |
Auto-ignition temperature (EU A15) |
The test item has been determined to have an auto-ignition temperature of 320 °C. |
Flash-point (EU A9, ISO 2719 -A, non-equilibrium closed cup) Flammability for solids (waiving) |
The flash point of test item was determined to be 58.5°C The test item is considered to be Flammable Liquid Cat. 3. Waiving (based on physical state : Liquid) No hazardous reaction anticipated if contact with air or water, based on chemical structure and experience in handling and use. |
Explosive properties (waiving) |
Waiving (based on chemical structure of the constituents of the substance) No explosive properties are anticipated |
Oxidising properties (waiving) |
Waiving (based on chemical structure of the constituents of the substance) No Oxidising properties are anticipated |
Self-reactive substance (waiving) |
Waiving (based on chemical structure of the constituents of the substance) No classification as self-reactive substance is anticipated |
Organic peroxide (waiving) |
Waiving (based on chemical structure of the constituents of the substance) No classification as Organic peroxide is anticipated |
