Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Irreversible scaling was observed in a valid skin irritation study.
Mild, reversible corneal was observed in a valid eye irritation study.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Skin irritation:

In a skin irritation assay with rabbits 0.5 ml of the test substance was applied on the clipped back of 3 animals for 4h (BASF AG, 1987). Skin effects were observed for 8 days.

Reversible erythema was observed within 24 h after exposure, however scaling was still present at the end of the observation period.

Eye irritation:

In an eye irritation assay with rabbits 0.1 ml undiluted test substance was applied into the conjunctival sac of 3 animals. The eye was kept unwashed and was observed for 8 days.

Mild, reversible corneal opacity was observed.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on irreversible scaling the test substance is classified as skin irritant according to EU (R38) and GHS (Cat. 2).

Since the mean (24, 48, 72h) of the cornea scores was <2, of the iris scores <1, of the conjunctivae scores <2.5 and of the chemosis scores <2 no classification according to Directive 67/548 EU is warranted. Due to the corneal score (means 24, 48, 72h) of 1, which was reversible within the 8 day observation period, cat2B according to CLP Directive 1272/2008 is indicated.
