The determination of the melting point was performed by visual judgement using the capillary method. In the preliminary tests the test item starts melting at 310 °C. The test item showed four stages of melting. The melting started at 292.2 °C (stage A: Beginning of melting / wet point: Fine droplets adhere uniformly on the inside wall of the capillary tube.) At 304.0 °C the last stage D of melting (Liquefying point: A complete meniscus is formed at the surface, but an appreciable amount of the sample remains solid.) was visual observed. At the end of the test the test item was liquid and black; it is assumed that the test item decomposed at 304°C.

4-Amino-5-methylpyridinon: Determination of the Melting Point / Melting Range

Purpose:

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the melting point or melting range of 4-Amino-5-methylpyridinon by the capillary method using an electronic controlled heating system.

This study was based on the procedures indicated by the following internationally accepted methods:
