White liquor was clearly toxic to aquatic organisms. Daphnia was more sensitive organisms than algae. The dry solids/water ratio of the tested sample was 17/83 % by weight.

Short term toxicity to invertebrates:

EC50 (48h) values for Daphnia magna were 4.4 and 4.6 mg/l (dwt.) 26 and 27 mg/l (wwt.)

NOEC (48h) value for Daphnia magna was 2.2 mg/l (dwt) (13 mg/l (wwt.)) in both cases.

Short term toxicity to aquatic algae:

EC50 (72h) value for Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata was 77.7 mg/l (dwt.) (457.1 mg/l (wwt)).

Long term toxicity to aquatic species:

NOEC (72h) value for Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata was 18.8 mg/l (dwt.) (110.6 mg/l (wwt)).
