Description of key information

The key value for chemical safety assessment is the result of an experiment with neutralized test substance (BASF AG, 1989).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
1 000 mg/L

Additional information

The toxicity to microorganisms of TEA was tested by BASF AG (1989) in accordance with DIN 38412, Part 8 (Pseudomonas Zellvermehrungshemm-Test). The test organism was Pseudomonas putida and exposure duration of 17 h was reported. The nominal effective concentrations (ECx) were based on growth inhibition. Results with non-neutralized triethylamine were: EC10 = 71 mg/L, EC50 = 95 mg/L, and EC90 = 120 mg/L. Neutralized test substance testing gives as result an EC50 value greater than 1000 mg/L.
