Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

A 48-h EC50 value of 20.2 mg/L in Daphnia magna is observed, which corresponds to a 48-h EC50 value of 10.8 mg/L based on fluoride. The 48-h EC50 value of 10.8 mg fluoride/L is used in the assessment.

Additional information

No short-term toxicity test with invertebrates is available for potassium tetrafluoroaluminate. The results from the structural analogue multiconstituent aluminium potassium fluoride are used instead (for details see Reporting Format as attached to the respective IUCLID entry and CSR Appendix B.3). One GLP-compliant OECD 202 guideline study is available for acute toxicity in Daphnia magna. The concentrations were analytically verified. Immobilisation was observed and a 48-EC50 was 22.8 mg/L, based on nominal concentrations (Solvay Pharmaceuticals, 1999). As the contents of fluoride, expressed as a percentage of the molar weight in both substances are comparable, namely 53.5% for potassium tetrafluoroaluminate and ca. 51% for multiconstituent aluminium potassium fluoride, as a result no safety factor is applied. Instead, the effect concentrations will be corrected for molecular weight. The corrected effect concentration for potassium tetrafluoroaluminate is 20.2 mg/L, which corresponds to an effect concentration of 10.8 mg fluoride/L.
