Shock: No signs of ignition or explosion on impact. No signs of decomposition on disassembly of apparatus.
Friction: Signs of decomposition as indicated by a black mark on the porcelain plate and peg after each test.
Thermal: The test substance vented through the orifice and burned with a flame. With the 2 mm hole there was a rapid increase in flame size at approximately 2 min. No explosions occurred and heating was suspended at 5 min. In all cases the tube was recovered unchanged. Limiting hole diameter <2 mm.

Additional information
The study conducted according to EU guidelines and under GLP (Jackson, 1999) is considered to be relevant, reliable and adequate. According to the thermal sensitivity test described in Regulation (EC) No. 440/2008, A.14, the substance was tested "negative".
Two different batches of the substance were further tested according to the methods described in the UN Recommendations on Transport of Dangerous Goods. It was concluded that the first batch had “medium” sensitivity to intense heat under high confinement (Test E.1) and the substance did not propagate deflagration under confinement (Test C.1). The second batch had “low” sensitivity to intense heat under high confinement (Test E.1) and the substance did not propagate deflagration under confinement (Test C.1).
The test methods required for assessment under Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 (UN Recommendation on Transport of Dangerous Goods) differ slightly from those described in Regulation (EC) No. 440/2008. Tests A.14 and E.1 differ in that the latter is tested to a smaller limiting diameter (respectively 2 mm vs 1 mm), and hence is a more sensitive test. Both test methods were in agreement ("negative") at the smallest common limiting diameter (2 mm).
Justification for classification or non-classification
The available experimental test data are considered reliable and suitable for classification purposes under Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008, Annex I, section 2.1. The substance is not considered to be explosive according to the criteria given in the UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria, Part I. As a result the substance is not considered to be classified as explosive under Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008.
