Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Short-term studies investigating the toxicity of Fatty acids, C16-18, tetraesters with 3,3'-oxybis[1,2-propanediol] (CAS 91050-80-5) to aquatic saltwater organisms from three different trophic levels are available. The results from the acute studies show that Fatty acids, C16-18, tetraesters with 3,3'-oxybis[1,2-propanediol] has a low toxicity to aquatic organisms. The substance did not cause any effects to fish up to the limit of water solubility (< 0.05 mg/L). No effects up to a nominal loading rate of 1000 mg/L were observed in short-term studies with marine invertebrates and marine algae. Therefore, and due to low expected concentrations of the test substance in the aquatic compartment (low water solubility and readily biodegradable), no chronic toxicity to fish and aquatic invertebrates up to the water solubility are expected.

Based on the results from a toxicity control included in the biodegradation study (similar to ISO 10708) it can be concluded that Fatty acids, C16-18, tetraesters with 3,3'-oxybis[1,2-propanediol] (CAS 91050-80-5) is not expected to exhibit effects on the bacteria and microorganism community in sewage treatment plants and inhibition of the subsequent degradation process is not expected (NOEC (14 d) ≥ 20 mg/L BOD).
