Melting point

The experimental value of the melting point of 4-aminobenzene-1,3-disulphonic acid by the capillary method was found to be 205 deg C at 960 hPa. This value at 101 325 Pa is equivalent to 216.37oC

Boiling point

According to Danish EPA and EPI Suite boiling point of 4-aminobenzene-1,3-disulphonic acid was estimated to be 497.45 deg C using Adapted Stein and Brown Method

Density

The density of 4-aminobenzene-1,3-disulphonic acid by the mass by volume method was found to be 0.699 g/cm3 at room temperature of 21 °C .This value when converted into 20 deg C is equivalent to 0.6657 g/cm3.

Particle size distribution (Granulometry)

Based on the principle of measurement of relative amounts of particles present, sorted according to size, sieve analysis method have been used in this case and the particle size distribution (granulometry) of 4-aminobenzene-1,3-disulphonic acid is found to be in the range of 75 micrometer to 600 micrometer. Majority of the particles were found to be in the size of 150 micrometer (40.10 %).

Vapour pressure

According to EPI Suite, vapour pressure of 4-aminobenzene-1,3-disulphonic acid was estimated to be 0.0000000000008 mm Hg using Modified Grain Method.

Partition coefficient

The experimental value of octanol water partition co-efficient (log Pow) of 4-aminobenzene-1,3-disulphonic acid is -0.9586 at 21 degC and pH of 2.17.This value indicates that 4-aminobenzene-1,3-disulphonic acid is hydrophillic in nature.

Water solubility

The experimental value of the water solubility of 4-aminobenzene-1,3-disulphonic acid was found to be 4300 mg/L at 21°C by Shake flask method. This value indicates that 4-aminobenzene-1,3-disulphonic acid is soluble in water.

Solubility in organic solvents / fat solubility

The experimental value of solubility of 4-aminobenzene-1,3-disulphonic acid in methanol was found to be 2700 mg/L and in petroleum ether is 800 mg/L at 21 deg C temperature

Surface Tension

Surface tension of 4-aminobenzene-1,3-disulphonic acid was estimated to be 90.283996582 mN/m

Flash Point

4-aminobenzene-1,3-disulphonic acid was found to be non - flammable solid at 1005 hPa atmospheric pressure

Auto flammability

4-aminobenzene-1,3-disulphonic acid did not catch fire on being exposed to air at room temperature of 21 degC and atmospheric pressure of 975 hPa. This indicates that 4-aminobenzene-1,3-disulphonic acid is not auto-flammable.

Flammability

4-aminobenzene-1,3-disulphonic acid did not ignite even when the flame of bunsen burner having temperature of 950°C was brought in contact with it. Thus it is concluded that 4-aminobenzene-1,3-disulphonic acid is non - flammable.

Explosiveness

According to theoretical considerations based on chemical structure, 4-aminobenzene-1,3-disulphonic acid does not possess explosive or oxidizing properties. The reason for these is there are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties in 4-aminobenzene-1,3-disulphonic acid. Thus, as per column 2 of Annex VII this information was considered for waiver.

Oxidising properties

4-aminobenzene-1,3-disulphonic acid was not found to have oxidising property strong enough for classifying the chemical as an oxidising soild, since 59.6 ml of KMnO4 was required for getting the end point of the redox titration for 100 g of 4-aminobenzene-1,3-disulphonic acid.

pH

1% by volume solution of 4-aminobenzene-1,3-disulphonic acid was found to exhibit a pH of 1.61 at 23 degC. Thus 1% by volume solution of 4-aminobenzene-1,3-disulphonic acid is highly acidic in nature.

Dissociation constant

The average experimental pKa value for 4-aminobenzene-1,3-disulphonic acid was found to be 0.014773 at 21 deg C. The average pKa value when converted at 20 deg C is equivalent to 0.0140695

Viscosity

This end point was considered for waiver as viscosity is an inherent property of liquid substances and 4-aminobenzene-1,3-disulphonic acid is an organic solid. Therefore testing for this end point was considered scientifically unjustified and considered for waiver.
