- Irritant / corrosive response data:
- Instillation of the test substance caused a slight initial sting response.
Instillation of the test article produced scattered or diffuse areas of corneal opacity in one treated eye and easily discernible areas of corneal opacity in one other treated eye. The corneal opacity was noted from 24 to 72 hours after instillation. No corneal opacity was noted in the remaining treated eye.
Iridial inflammation was noted in all treated eyes from 30 minutes after instillation and lasted for up to 72 hours after instillation.
Severe conjunctival irritation was noted in all treated eyes 30 minutes and one hour after instillation. Moderate to severe conjunctival irritation was noted in all treated eyes 4 and 24 hours after instillation with minimal to moderate conjunctival irritation was noted in all treated eyes 48 and 72 hours after instillation.
The eyes of all rabbits were overtly normal by Day 8 examination. - Other effects:
- No observations indicative of systemic toxicity or ill health were noted for any rabbits during the course of the study.
Any other information on results incl. tables
Conclusion:
The test article was classified as irritant according to the EU labelling regulations Commission Directive 2001/59/EC. The symbol “Xi”, the indication of danger “Irritant” and the risk phrase R36 “IRRITATING TO EYES” are therefore required.
The test article is classified into Cat 2B "mildly irritating to eyes" according to the criteria of GHS.
