First-aid measures

Eye Contact: Flush eyes thoroughly with water for several minutes.  Remove contact lenses after the initial 1-2 minutes and continue flushing for several additional minutes.  If effects occur, consult a physician, preferably an ophthalmologist.  

Skin Contact: Wash skin with plenty of water.  

Inhalation: Move person to fresh air; if effects occur, consult a physician.  

Ingestion: No emergency medical treatment necessary.  

Notes to Physician: No specific antidote.  Treatment of exposure should be directed at the control of symptoms and the clinical condition of the patient.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing Media: Water.  Dry chemical fire extinguishers.  Carbon dioxide fire extinguishers.  

Fire Fighting Procedures: Keep people away.  Isolate fire and deny unnecessary entry.  Soak thoroughly with water to cool and prevent re-ignition.  Cool surroundings with water to localize fire zone.  Hand held dry chemical or carbon dioxide extinguishers may be used for small fires.  Dust explosion hazard may result from forceful application of fire extinguishing agents.  

Special Protective Equipment for Firefighters: Wear positive-pressure self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and protective fire fighting clothing (includes fire fighting helmet, coat, trousers, boots, and gloves).  If protective equipment is not available or not used, fight fire from a protected location or safe distance.  

Unusual Fire and Explosion Hazards: Do not permit dust to accumulate. When suspended in air dust can pose an explosion hazard.  Minimize ignition sources. If dust layers are exposed to elevated temperatures, spontaneous combustion may occur.  

Hazardous Combustion Products: During a fire, smoke may contain the original material in addition to combustion products of varying composition which may be toxic and/or irritating.  Combustion products may include and are not limited to:  Carbon monoxide.  Carbon dioxide.

Accidental release measures

Steps to be Taken if Material is Released or Spilled: Contain spilled material if possible.  Collect in suitable and properly labeled containers.  See Section: Disposal Considerations.  

Personal Precautions: Spilled material may cause a slipping hazard.  Use appropriate safety equipment.

Environmental Precautions: Prevent from entering into soil, ditches, sewers, waterways and/or groundwater.

Handling and storage

6,6'-[[3,3',5,5'-tetrakis(1,1-dimethylethyl)-[1,1'- biphenyl]-2,2'-diyl] bis(oxy)]bis-dibenzo[d,f][1,3,2]-dioxaphosphepin safety and handling information is contained in the MSDS supplied by the supplier.  6,6'-[[3,3',5,5'-tetrakis(1,1-dimethylethyl)-[1,1'- biphenyl]-2,2'-diyl] bis(oxy)]bis-dibenzo[d,f][1,3,2]-dioxaphosphepin is handled under Strictly Controlled Intermediate protocols rigorously defined by the supplier in a Licensing agreement between the supplier and user.  The handling and use of the substance is state-of-the-art for introducing powdered substance with negligible worker and environmental exposure.  The substance has only one approved use and that is in a sealed industrial chemical processing facility.  The Substance does not leave the sealed processing unit.  Workers will use PPE such as gloves, monogoggles/face shields, chemical suits, and dust respirators while handling the material.  Once charged, the shipping container (plastic Supersack™) will be disposed of by incineration or other approved methods.

A Risk assessment has been done and is part of the Strictly Controlled Intermediate protocol that has been developed.  The conclusions of this analysis are part of the MSDS and the Licensing Technology package that the downstream user gets as part of the purchasing of 6,6'-[[3,3',5,5'-tetrakis(1,1-dimethylethyl)-[1,1'- biphenyl]-2,2'-diyl] bis(oxy)]bis-dibenzo[d,f][1,3,2]-dioxaphosphepinfrom the Supplier.

Exposure controls / personal protection

6,6'-[[3,3',5,5'-tetrakis(1,1-dimethylethyl)-[1,1'- biphenyl]-2,2'-diyl] bis(oxy)]bis-dibenzo[d,f][1,3,2]-dioxaphosphepin safety and handling information is contained in the MSDS supplied by the supplier.  6,6'-[[3,3',5,5'-tetrakis(1,1-dimethylethyl)-[1,1'- biphenyl]-2,2'-diyl] bis(oxy)]bis-dibenzo[d,f][1,3,2]-dioxaphosphepin is handled under Strictly Controlled Intermediate protocols rigorously defined by the supplier in a Licensing agreement between the supplier and user.  The handling and use of the substance is state-of-the-art for introducing powdered substance with negligible worker and environmental exposure.  The substance has only one approved use and that is in a sealed industrial chemical processing facility.  The substance never leaves the closed reaction system once it has been introduced into it.   Decomposition products are biphenols and phosphorous acid. Phosphorus acid is removed to the water waste treatment facility where it rapidly oxidizes in air to phosphate. Biphenols mostly stay in the reactor but some slowly goes out to waste treatment facility. No detectable levels of the substance leave the closed system.

Stable.  

Conditions to Avoid: Exposure to elevated temperatures can cause product to decompose.  

Incompatible Materials: Avoid contact with:  Strong acids.  Strong oxidizers.  Water.  

Hazardous Polymerization

Will not occur.  

Thermal Decomposition

Decomposition products depend upon temperature, air supply and the presence of other materials.

Disposal considerations

This product, when being disposed of in its unused and uncontaminated state should be treated as a hazardous waste according to EC Directive 91/689/EEC.  Any disposal practices must be in compliance with all national and provincial laws and any municipal or local by-laws governing hazardous waste.  For used, contaminated and residual materials additional evaluations may be required.  Do not dump into any sewers, on the ground, or into any body of water.
