No reliable results are available for the bioaccumulation of synthetic rutile in aquatic or terrestrial organisms. Therefore, read-across is proposed to reliable results for the bioaccumulation of TiO2 in fish and Ti metal in plants and corresponding soil or sediment samples. Ti concentrations in the fish tissues stayed constant over the concentration range of TiO2 in water tested (0-1 mg TiO2/L), resulting in decreasing BCF with increasing TiO2 concentrations in water. Reliable BSAF factors for plants vary between 0.0002 to 0.0008 kg/kg and point to the absence of bioaccumulation of Ti in plants. Therefore, synthetic rutile is not considered as bioaccumulative.
