Tridecylamine, branched and linear (CAS 86089-17-0) is a mixture of C13 isomers (branched and linear; 99.8 -100%).
1 -Tridecanamine (CAS 2869 -34-3 = linear isomer) was selected as a representative C13 substance due t its expected higher toxicity (see Summary of IUCLID Ch. 6.1). Therefore, the assessment of the toxicity of the substance to fish was based on the available experimental data of the compound itself and on the read-across data for the source chemical CAS 2869-34-3.
Experimental data are available for the target item TDA, b+l (CAS 86089‑17‑0) and for the analogue source item 1-tridecanamine (CAS 2869-34-3). In a non-GLP study according to DIN 38412-15, the acute toxicity of TDA, b+l to fish (Leuciscus idus) was investigated. The 96-h LC50 was determined to be 1.26 mg/L (nominal; BASF AG, 1983). Test concentrations were not analytically verified in this static toxicity test.In a GLP study according to APHA (equivalent or similar to OECD 203), the 96-h LC50 of the analogue substance 1-tridecanamine was found to be 0.065 mg/L (measured; Geiger et al., 1990). The test species was Pimephales promelas. The test conditions were flow-through. The test concentrations were analytically verified. As the study with TDA, b+l relies on nominal values, the toxicity of the target substance might be underestimated. Therefore, the study with 1-tridecanamine (CAS 2869-34-3) was selected as the key study as test concentrations were analytically verified.
Based on the available experimental data, TDA b+l (CAS 86089-17-0) is concluded to be acutely very toxic to fish.
