Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Remove patient to fresh air, seek medical attention if

irritation develops.

Emergency measure - Eyes: Irrigate eyes thoroughly for at least 15 minutes, seek

medical attention if irritation develops.

Emergency measure - Skin: Wash thoroughly with soap and water, seek medical attention

if irritation develops.

Emergency measure - Ingestion: Seek immediate medical attention.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Water, foam or dry chemical may be used.

Product arising from burning: Products of combustion may include oxides of carbon, sulfur

and phosphorous.

Product determined by test: N

Protective equipment: Protective clothing, eye protection and self contained

breathing apparatus.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Wear suitable protective clothing (see 2.3.1).

LAND SPILL:

Prevent liquid from entering sewers, watercourses or low

areas.  Contain spilled liquid with sand or earth.  Recover

by pumping or with a suitable absorbent. Place in suitably

labelled containers. For small spills incinerate at a

suitable facility. The substance can be recovered if

economically feasible.

WATER SPILL:

Remove from surface by skimming or with suitable adsorbents.

If allowed by local authorities and environmental agencies

sinking and/or suitable dispersants may be used in

non-confined waters.

Handling and storage

Handling: Keep container closed. Handle and open containers with care.

Ventilation should be provided to control worker exposure

and prevent health risk.  For open systems where contact is

likely, wear chemical resistant gloves, a chemical suit,

rubber boots, and chemical safety goggles plus face shield.

If exposure by inhalation cannot be adequately controlled an

approved respirator should be worn.

Storage: Store in a cool, well-ventilated place away from

incompatible materials.  Do NOT handle or store near an open

flame, heat or other sources of ignition.  Protect from

direct sunlight.  Store under nitrogen.

Use proper grounding procedures.

Do NOT pressurise, cut, heat or weld containers.

This product is corrosive to carbon steel and should be

stored in stainless steel or polyethylene-lined containers.

Glass or plastic is acceptable material for small

quantities.

Packaging of the substance and or preparation: Shipped in 200 litre drums or by tanker.  Suitable materials

and coatings include stainless steel, inorganic zinc and

plastic/epoxy resin-coated steel.

Stability and reactivity

Danger other than fire: Toxic gases will form upon combustion.  Empty drums may

explode if pressurised, cut, welded, brazed, soldered,

drilled, or exposed to heat, flame, sparks, static

electricity or other sources of ignition.

Chemical reaction with water: Hydrolyses.

Dust explosion: Not applicable, as the substance is a liquid.

Dust explosion determined by test: N

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Spilled material may be recovered by pumping, with a

suitable absorbent, or by scraping up with a shovel or pail.

If economically feasible, it may then be sent for recovery.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: None known.

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Not recommended.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Incineration is recommended, provided that a closed cycle

incinerator with scrubbers is used. (A665)

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: Not recommended.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - other: It is recommended that this substance should be disposed of

in consultation with a suitably qualified contractor, and in

any case, care should be taken to ensure compliance with EC,

national and local regulations.

Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Not applicable, as the public at large will not come into

contact with either the substance as such or the ATF within

the gearbox.

Public at large - Possibility of destruction - others: It is recommended that, at the end of the lifetime of the

gearbox, ATF containing this substance should be disposed of

in consultation with a suitably qualified contractor, and in

any case, care should be taken to ensure compliance with EC,

national and local regulations.
