Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information
Additional information
A hydrolysis screening study is available for m/p-Diol, a complex reaction product. m/p-Diol is regarded as hydrolitically stable and therefore the single component m-Diol is also regarded as stable hydrolitically.
A ready biodegradability test is available with the Reaction Mass of α, α, α’, α’-Tetramethyl-m-xylene-α, α’-diol and α, α, α’, α’ -Tetramethyl-p-xylene- α, α’-diol (m/p Diol). The test substance was not readily biodegradable under the conditions of the test. A mean total of 2.0% degradation was achieved by Day 28.
The single component m-Diol is therefore also considered not readily biodegradable.
A BCF study performed under Chinese GLP, valid with restrictions, is available. The bioconcentration test was performed using zebrafish. The test fish were exposed to 1 and 10 mg/L under semi-static conditions with 48h renewal. BCF values were measured following 28-day exposure period. The results show that the BCF value < 1 - 3.99 (at 1 mg/L) and < 1 - 2.08 (at 10 mg/L), which indicated that the substance has no bioaccumulation potential.
An adsorption to sewage sludge and soil performed under Chinese GLP, valid with restrictions, is available. The results showed that the Koc value of 22.9, which is equal to a Log Koc of 1.36, showing that the substance does not tend to sorb strongly to soil or sewage sludge.
