Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT assessment
Administrative data
PBT assessment: overall result
- PBT status:
- the substance is not PBT / vPvB
- Justification:
Persistence assessment
1,3-Phenylenebisoxazoline was demonstrated not to be readily biodegradable in a Modified MITI-Test according to OECD TG 301C. No further experimental data on biodegradation is available. Based on the experimental data the persistence criterion (P) for PBT and vPvP assessment cannot definitely be decided, however, the ultimate biodegradation timeframe prediction (BIOWIN3) results in a value above 2.7 indicating that 1,3-Phenylenebisoxazoline is not persistent.
Given the fact that 1,3-Phenylenebisoxazoline is clearly not fulfilling the (T) and (B) criteria, no further assessment of the (P) criterion is necessary.
Bioaccumulation assessment
The logKow for 1,3-Phenylenebisoxazoline is 2.3, thus well below 4.5. Therefore, the substance is not a B and not a vB substance, respectively. This is supported by a bioconcentration study according to OECD305C where the BCF was determined to be 1.5 – 2.3. However this test report was not available to the registrant.
Toxicity assessment
According to the screening criteria for (T), data available for 1,3-Phenylenebisoxazoline from short-term aquatic toxicity studies – with EC50 or LC50 values well above 100 mg/L for all three trophic levels – indicate that the substance does presumably not fulfil the (T) criterion.
