Description of key information

The key study for this endpoint describes toxicity to the algae (P. subcapitata) where the NOEC value (growth rate) is 106.5 mg/L and the EC10 (growth rate) is 109.17 mg/L. The ErC50 is estimated as >= 234.3 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
234.3 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
109.17 mg/L

Additional information

The key study was conducted following an internationally recommended guideline, under GLP, and with analytical monitoring of test substance. Although the bicarbonate concentration was three times the recommended levels, this does not have any significant impact on the results. The other available study on toxicity to the bluegreen alga Microcystis aeruginosa was considered unusable as the growth rate in the control (3.7) was below the minimum factor of 16.
