Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Administrative data

First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: none

Emergency measure - Eyes: In case of eye contact, immediately irrigate with plenty of

water for 15 minutes.

Emergency measure - Skin: In case of skin contact, wash affected areas of skin with

soap and water.

Emergency measure - Ingestion: none

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Use water, carbon dioxyde or dry chemical to extinguish

fires.

Product arising from burning: Thermal decomposition or combustion may produce carbon

dioxyde and oxides of nitrogen and sulfur.

Product determined by test: N

Protective equipment: Wear self-contained, positive pressure breathing apparatus

and full firefighting protective clothing.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Where exposure level is not known, wear approved, positive

pressure, selfcontained respirator. Where exposure level is

known, wear approved respirator suitable for level of

exposure. Wear some protective clothing equipment as noted

in 2.3.10. Sweep up spills and place in a waste disposal

container. Flush with water.

Handling and storage

Handling: Utilize a closed system process where feasible. Where this

material is not used in a closed system, good enclosure and

local exhaust ventilation should be provided to control

exposure.

Practice good hygiene. To prevent skin contact wear skin

protection such as impervious gloves, apron, workpants, long

sleeve workshirt, or disposible coveralls.

For operations where eye or face contact can occur goggles

or face shield should be worn.

Storage: No special precautions are required for storage. Material

should be kept in a closed container to avoid contamination

or dust generation.

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: MTSI is used as a catalyst for Powderlink (r) 1174

containing formulations in very small levels (0.3-0.5% based

on binder). Once crosslinking is over, it is impossible to

recover MTSI without destroying the film network.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: MTSI is an acid compound and can react with organic an

inorganic bases to form salts whic ar soluble in water. But

it is not possible to neutralize in the application in which

it is used after crosslinking is done.

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Not applicable

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: MTSI is destroyed by incineration as are the polymers which

contain it.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: Not applicable

Industry - Possibility of destruction - other: Not applicable

Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: MTSI will be commercially at very low levels in polymer

systems (0.3-0.5%) particulary in coatings. Revory and

recycle of this material after curing is not currently

practiced.

Public at large - Possibility of neutralisation: Since the acidic property of the compound is needed for

curing Powderlink (r) 1174 in formulations, neutralization

will render it useless as a catalyst.

Public at large - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Not applicable

Public at large - Possibility of destruction - incineration: MTSI is effectively destroyed by incineration as are the

polymers which contain it.

Public at large - Possibility of destruction - water purification: not applicable
