Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
GLP compliance:
yes
Specific details on test material used for the study:
Purity: > 99.9%
Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

The test material never ignited during the preliminary screening. Although smoldering and charring were observed immediately upon flame application, no flame and subsequent burning were observed upon flame removal and after two minutes. The total char length was 100 mm and browning was noticed from 100 mm to 150 mm. The off-yellow/white test substance turned black during the charring/smoldering period. Since smoldering did not propagate combustion along 200 mm of the test material line within the 4 minute test period, test substance is not considered to be highly flammable.

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
The test material never ignited during the preliminary screening; no further testing was required. The test material was not considered to be highly flammable.
Executive summary:

The objective of this study was to determine the flammability point of the test substance. The study was performed based on procedures presented in the Council of the European Communities, EU Directive 92/69/EEC, Method A.10. Flammability (Solids). The test material never ignited during the preliminary screening; no further testing was required. The test substance is not considered to be highly flammable.
